A new study shows that the so-called Super PACs and “independent” groups are spending 1,600 percent more on political ads than they did at this point in the 2008 presidential race. And instead of using that money to beef up political reporting, broadcasters are instead lining their pockets with the profits and showcasing easy-to-produce junk news and celebrity gossip.
